Since the movie is set to open in the Philippines in a few days, it is only fitting and proper that fanatics out there know that this climbed – surprisingly – to the top of the box office records!
As of Sunday, 23 June, Monsters University has been reported to lead the movies that were opening for the week, beating Man of Steel and World War Z for the key position. Monsters University debuted with an estimated gross of $136.5 million in 36 different markets.
Incidentally, this Disney movie is the first prequel ever to be shown. In the past, sequels have been popular among moviegoers but the success of this film confirms that prequels can be just as strong.
Monsters University features the lives of Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan sans Boo and before their jobs at Monsters Inc. It gives us a more in depth look at their character and personalities as well as a humorous spin on their then budding friendship.
Watch Monsters University, opens in theatres (in Philippine cinemas on June 26.)
