Recreating The Authentic Foods That You Experienced While Traveling

Whenever you go away - whether it’s for a two-week vacation or an extended period - there are always restaurants that you fall in love with. So naturally, when you get home, you want to attempt to try and recreate the dishes that you loved while traveling, the only problem is you may not be sure how to go about it.

The first thing that you should know is that recreating the foods that you loved on vacation isn’t always easy. However, it is doable; it’s just a case of being willing to be patient and understanding that it may take some time to perfect the dish. To help you to do that, below are some suggestions and ideas to take note of.

food, authentic foods

An authentic recipe is a must

If you are going to be able to recreate your favorite dishes from your travels, you need to be willing to find an authentic recipe. This may mean spending hours scouring Google until you find a recipe that sounds as close to what you had while on vacation as possible. Or, it may mean getting in touch with someone whose native to the country that you visited and asking them to provide you with a recipe - thanks to social media this shouldn’t be too difficult to do.

Refer to photos

Another option is to refer to photos. If you’re a bit of a foodie, then the chances are that you will have taken photos of lots of your meals while you were away. You can refer to these to get a better idea of what the finished dish should look like - giving you an idea of what’s needed to ensure that it tastes authentic.

Ensure you’ve got the right equipment

Some flavors can only be created with the right cooking equipment, so it’s important to ensure that you have what you need. For example, if the recipe calls for a cast-iron skillet to be used to cook a steak in, this is probably because of the flavor this form of cooking creates. Or, if granite frying pans are suggested as the frying pan of choice for sauteing potatoes in, there will be a reason for this. Whatever the recipe calls for, if you want to recreate the dish perfectly, it’s crucial that you have the right equipment.

Practice makes perfect

Don’t be disheartened if the first time you attempt to recreate a dish, it doesn’t go to plan. A lot of recipes take time and a little tweaking to get right. So don’t stress if the first time the dish doesn’t come out just right, it’s just a case of practicing more - the more practice you have at a certain dish, the more likely it is to taste just like you imagined it would. Perhaps you could ask other for constructive criticism, to see what it is that you’ve missed or could do better next time you make it.

So, there you have it, how to recreate the authentic foods that you loved while traveling, at home.
