DOH commends Globe Telecom for Radiation Safety cell sites

Globe Telecom cell sites received radiation-safety certificates from the Department of Health, which means that radio frequency signals from the facilities do not cause any hazard on people’s health.

Head of Network Technologies Strategy for Globe, Emmanuel Estrada proudly announced, “The radiation-safety certificates for every cell site that we have in the country are a proof that concerns over potential health hazard coming from base stations are without basis.”

This said certificates given by the department were based on the guidelines set by the  International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)  regarding the maximum and allowable exposures to radio frequency fields for humans.

Estrada also pointed that normally, radio signals follow the ‘inverse-square law of physics’ which means that signal level from a single cell is completely reduced as distance from the antenna is also increased. He then added that, radiation at ground level is usually lower when compared to the levels of radiation released from two-way radio of security personnel or a cell phone.

Added to that, he also uttered that “dynamic control,” the latest of technologies which enables both the cell site, base station and most of all, the handset of subscribers to reduce power output at a good level while providing efficient service. It has been proven effective in reducing radiation levels, power consumption for the base stations and also, for longer endurance of handset batteries.

As a result of the survey conducted, it was found that radio frequency exposures emitted by the base stations in public areas including malls, schools, hospitals have met with the international standards of safety.

Compared with radio frequency exposures from radio and television broadcast transmitters, exposures from base stations are a thousand times lower. He also added that the strength of radio frequency fields is higher at it source but diminishes with distance due to the inverse-square law.

Radio signals from cell sites are referred to as non-ionizing. Other low frequency devices that emit such kinds of non-ionizing radio signals are transistor radios, microwave ovens and baby monitors and two-way walkie-talkies. On another aspect, ionizing radiations cause high risk of adverse health risks and these are from x-rays, ultraviolet rays and gamma rays – instrumental for breaking chemical bonds in DNA.

Points To Consider In Getting Traffic To Your Site

You have probably read a number of tutorials on how you can drive traffic to your website. You might have taken down a few of the pointers mentioned and applied a number of them to your site and wait for the positive results. Getting the constant traffic is a boon of a blogger’s life and this may very well determine the kind of earning opportunities you can get out of your site, that is why you must always strive to reach as many people as you can and connect to a wider group of readers and subscribers.

Whether you are a seasoned web designer or a newbie blogger, here a few pointers to consider in getting those traffic into your site:

Of course, you cannot encourage readers and subscribers to return to your site as much as you can if they do not find anything pleasant to begin with. That is why it is a must that you opt for a blog or web design that is professional looking, presentable or depending on the niche of your site, over all pleasing to the eyes. If you cannot find a free theme or design, you might consider shelling a minimal fee and hire a web design company to create a theme that will not only be very pleasing to look at but will also score points with Google.

Branding is very important in creating the image you wanted your site to have. It also allows your site to stand out and be easily visible to the public. Think of your site as a brand or a product that you need to sell or imagine those products that you patronize simply because they are easy to recall and they are the first things that come to your mind. In the same manner, you need the same kind of marketing for your site so that it will be easily recognized by your target market, distinguishing it from the rest of your contemporaries and thereby creating a recall and possible regular traffic.  Consider having a logo design that best represents your site to make it work to your full advantage.

Social Media

I am sure that you are well aware that social media is the new “in” and you will prove well to make your site’s presence felt in some or most of those social media platforms. Creating a Facebook or a Twitter Page for your site, as well an Instagram account, where you can easily syndicate your site’s content will prove to be most ideal. Just make sure to create a separate account for your site and for your personal use, so as not to confuse your followers.

Five Reasons to Adopt Video Networking

Don’t kid yourself any longer – the time has well and truly come to embrace video networking and all is has to offer the modern business. Thanks to brands like Polycom bringing incredible technology to the mainstream market, video networking is no longer reserved only for the biggest global conglomerates and those with money to burn.

So for those needed a helpful push in the right direction, here’s a look at five simple reasons why adopting video networking sooner rather than later is a 100% beneficial business move:

First and foremost, we’re still at a point in time when video calling and networking is enough to not only convey an image of professionalism, but also impress the party on the other end. As the technology is still at least to some extent rare, at least as far as the big picture is concerned, those using video conferencing give off an air of professionalism and genuine interest in the future the likes of which always goes down well with clients, partners and peer alike. There really aren’t many communication platforms left that the same can be said for – video networking is as professional as it gets these days.

Ability to Branch Out

Next comes the way in which video calling using web-based services makes it easier than ever before to branch out overseas or team up with partners from all over the world. Such systems allow for collaborative work and communication with others from any and every imaginable distance as if they were all in the same room at the same time. Branching out internationally can make the most extraordinary difference to any business of any size and has really never been within easier reach.

Cheaper than Travelling

Speaking of communicating as if in the same room, one of the biggest benefits that come with video conferencing is the fact that those taking part in meetings and talks don’t actually have to travel anywhere at all to do so. Needless to say, the savings on travel costs that amount from staying on home turf rather than going anywhere can be quite enormous – as too can the savings on paying employees for the time spent travelling.

Cheaper than Voice Calling

And just to follow on from the above, in most instances using the web for hi-end video calling can actually be even cheaper than making a standard landline phone call to an office in the same town. With the internet it really doesn’t matter who you’re speaking to or for how long, you’ll never pay more than the lowest local rates.

Last but not least, it’s really only a matter of time until video calling and networking takes off as the new standard across most major industries. As time goes by, more and more leading authorities are adopting video calling technology which in turn means that those not quite as prepared for the future are losing out on the ability to network with some seriously powerful players. All business will have to make the switch sooner or later, so really there’s no time like the present.

New Shows, New Seasons on TV

The upcoming September line-up of shows for ETC has any TV fan excited. A new season for “New Girl” will start and we will probably see more of the Jessica – Nick relationship which everybody has been rooting for since the show started. It could very well be an awkward start, knowing that Winston and Schmidt have been opposed to the relationship from the start. How will the house dynamics change?

Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards: Engaged

Looks like the One Direction hotties will be one member less available.

Zayn Malik and girlfriend of two years Perrie Edwards are engaged! The two lovebirds were seen together on August 20 in London Leicester Square for the One Direction: This Is Us movie premiere. Tongues were soon wagging when the fabulous couple arrived because apart from Edwards’ elegant coif and flowing black gown, a stunningly huge diamond ring was noticeable on her finger.

Perrie Edwards’ mom confirms, “It’s official. I’m over the moon. They really are in love. “she continues, ”It’s wonderful because Zayn is absolutely gorgeous. It’s true they got engaged on Sunday, and it’s absolutely lovely. Perrie loves him to pieces and its perfect. They get on so well together and understand each other. It’s just fabulous.”

‘Slave to the Rhythym’, a Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber collaboration?

It’s a bizarre collaboration, however which way you look at it. Only last Friday, August 16, a Michael Jackson track sung by Justin Bieber surfaced over the net. There is no official word from JB regarding the song’s origins, but he tweets mysteriously: “Excited for what is to come. MJ set the bar. Not only for music but for being an entertainer and how u treat the fans. Wish he was here….”

The word is that this is a single that Michael Jalcson recorded but never finished back in 2009. It’s titled, ‘Slave to the Rhythm’, a fast paced song that speaks of a mysterious, unnamed girl and her dangerous obsession. The song has now been updated to feature the vocals of Justin Bieber.

One Direction, 'Our Moment'

Apart from conquering the airwaves, One Direction seems all set to try a new direction by launching a new fragrance line. Over the course of two months, various commercials, press releases and even YouTube videos have gone viral, to promote their perfume which is aptly named ‘Our Moment'.

Fans from all over have fawned over and gushed on the singing sensations’ teasers on YouTube. And teasers they surely are, with only a few seconds worth of exposure that is set to kindle any One Directioner on fire. So far, we’ve only seen Niall, Zayn, Louis and Harry in individual, 4 second teasers. Perhaps Liam will complete this awesome quintuplet ad before the formal unveiling of the fragrance on August 25?

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Movie Review

Sometimes when I write movie reviews, I do a bit of research to try and see how others wrote their reviews. True, there are times when I do ‘blind’ reviews and just give my pure, unadulterated opinion, but in this case, I chose to do a bit of ‘googling’.

Turns out, this sequel isn’t as popular as I would’ve hoped or expected. Critics have passed it off, saying that Percy was written without any depth of character. They say that there’s a scene which is totally infuriating and that the whole franchise feel “been there, done that”.

I disagree.

Now, let me clarify first that I am not a Percy Jackson fan. I just see merit where I am surprised others do not. I guess other people have reached the point where they have forgotten their younger, insecure selves that they failed to understand where Percy Jackson is coming from – his need for parental approval, his desire for personal approbation and acceptance, his incessant question of self worth. I mean, we were all young once. Did you never pass a phase in your life where you questioned your worth? Evidently, some critics have been lucky – or oblivious – to one of the most philosophical questions in life: Do I matter?

The Conjuring Movie Review

The Conjuring has nothing new on the table for horror fans. The movie gives us a lot of dark scenes, eerie silences, piercing screams, falling objects, loud noises and hideous, white faced ghosts. The music is effectively timed, enough for experienced horror enthusiasts such as myself (lol) - to steel and buckle up on a scary movie moment.

Despite all the clichés, however, The Conjuring is still effective. If you are looking for a scary movie, try this one – it’s definitely scary enough. The only, small, miniscule letdown is the acting of the daughters in the movie. Chalk it up to age and inexperience but there were moments when you feel their terror was and forced, making it obvious for what it really was – acting. The main actors, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Vera Famiga and Patrick Wilson gave good performances, despite the fact that the script they’d been given was simple and shallow. In the movie, we hardly see anything in their character apart from their profession and familial relationships.

Lea Michele’s Touching Dedication To Cory

With soulful eyes and a wistful smile, Lea Michele walked up to the stage to accept her 2013 Teen Choice award for Choice TV Actress in a comedy. The Glee star was radiant in a two toned pink ensemble, her first public appearance since the tragedic death of co-star and fiancé Cory Monteith.

“Thank you guys. Thank you. “ she gushes emotionally,”I just wanted to be here today to personally thank all of you and tell everyone out there how much all of your love and support has meant to me over these past few difficult weeks. Thank you.”

Casually touching her ‘Cory’ nameplate necklace, Lea continued,”Not that I had doubts before, but you guys are certainly the greatest fans in the world, and I want to dedicate this award to Cory. For all of you who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love, we are going to get through this together.”

Top Casino Movies of all time

Whilst going out to a casino is a great way to have fun with your friends, having a cosy night in watching a marathon of monumental casino flicks is just as fun and probably much cheaper. So, without further ado, here’s a list of some of the best casino films of all time.

The clue may be in the title, but Scorsese’s Casino is a timeless classic that depicts how the mob changed Vegas forever. De Nero takes centre stage in one of his finest career performances, and Casino has an amazing film-noir feel that wonderfully showcases all of the high-life, glamour and danger of the Nevada gambling scene.

Oceans 11 & 13

The star studded line-up of Brad Pitt, George Clooney et al was first broadcast on our movie screens in 2001 with the arrival of Ocean’s 11. The plot is centred on a group of 11 heist experts that plan to rip off three Las Vegas casinos owned by bad guy Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) in one evening. Headed by Danny Ocean (Clooney), with the assorted talents of, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and others, the gang is aiming for the haul of a life time. A few year’s later the final Sequel, Ocean’s 13, was released with Pacino starring as a corrupt billionaire casino owner.

Stallone Tweets: Willis Out, Ford In!

Even though negotiations are still underway for the third installment of The Expendables, it seems that casting has come to a bit of a temporary snag. It has been reported that Bruce Willis has refused to sign up over a $3 million contract for 4 days’ work in Bulgaria. The veteran action star is said to be asking for a million a day to which Stallone, and several others, have said no.

As a result, Stallone has reached out to Harrison Ford who was quick to say yes in joining the Expendables franchise. Stallone later tweeted: “WILLIS OUT. . . HARRISON FORD IN! ! ! ! GREAT NEWS! ! ! ! ! Been waiting years for this! ! ! !” This was later followed by a second tweet which seemed aimed at Willis, “GREEDY AND LAZY…A SURE FORMULA FOR CAREER FAILURE.” Willis has yet to reply or comment on the issue.

Whatever his reasons may be, Willis’ fans will surely be disappointed to hear of the change. The Expendables is an ultimate action fan’s dream come true simply by seeing all the hardcore actions stars side by side in one great movie. People have even gone so far as to speculate that Harrison Ford may be a better fit than Bruce Willis who, according to an insider, “is a better actor and a much nicer person.”

What do you think? Is Ford better than Willis?

Jim Carrey slammed by Co-Actors in Kick Ass 2

Jim Carrey has taken in a lot of fire lately for his personal decision not to promote his newest movie, Kick Ass 2. Carrey stars as born again vigilante, Colonel Stars and Stripes. Kick Ass 2 is a British American Superhero Action / Comedy that is set to hit the Philippines on August 14.

Carrey, an active and outspoken advocate on gun control tweeted last June; “I did ‘Kick Ass’ a month before Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience, I cannot support that level of violence.” (The Sandy Hook tragedy occurred on December 2012 where a psychotic break of one man led to the ruthless shooting of 6 adults and 20 children.) Since that statement, Carrey has declined to promote, much less participate in any publicity stint for the film.

Paolo Ballesteros, The Chameleon

Comedians have employed various antics to make the masses laugh. Some specialize in slapstick comedy where a certain degree of physical agility has to be met. Running, falling and tripping – the Stooges would be best icons for this.

But when it comes to parodies, Paolo Ballesteros seems to put everyone else to shame. His hilarious portrayals of well known and loved Hollywood artists have gained attention among Philippine audiences. His witty take on Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Audrey Hepburn and his latest and most popular one so far, Marilyn Monroe have made him a trending topic not only on gossip TVs but in social media as well.

Lessons from Jonathan Yabut

And it’s said that Filipinos make poor businessmen.

With our culture’s strong inclination towards ‘pakikisama’, our tendency to go on ‘siestas’, our nature to be subservient and overly prudent, it has been said time and again that Filipinos would make the worst businessmen. This belief has been shattered however, with the triumph of a Filipino in the recently concluded first season for the Apprentice Asia.

It’s been more than a week now since Filipino sensation Jonathan Yabut bested contenders in the famed reality show. The Apprentice Asia actually takes its roots from the US and has since grown to be an international franchise. It was launched in Asia last May 22 with a group of 12 eager young businessmen and women who would compete for the rare chance to work for and with business magnate Tony Fernandes. Every week, a competitor was ‘weeded’ and sent out of the boardroom with the now iconic phrase, ‘You’re fired.’

Eventually, it was down to Andrea Loh from Singapore and our own Jonathan Yabut. We all know how that turned out, of course, but did we really see the wisdom this young man has shown in the course of the competition?

Live in Comfort, Fun and Convenience at the Holiday Houses

Holiday Houses
Modern day homes situated in private villages provide not only shelter. As with today’s trend, subdivisions now offer amusement through club houses, in-house resorts, spa and even large department stores.

This has been done in order to provide convenience to residents who may choose not to go places, especially in the downtown areas, to buy their basic necessities and avail of services from salon, spa, healthcare and most of all, restaurants.

For pet lovers, some shops are made open even on holidays if in case a resident would like to buy some Puppies for Sale, at a reasonable price.

Swimming pools and play grounds are what parents usually need for them to please their kids and if the village has provided such amenities, many would grab of the available units or lots for residential purposes. Children can even be left in clubhouses where special classes in music and arts take place during the vacations.

Restaurants which serve delightful dishes and food items are of great need by the residents. The availability of restaurants around the trade center of the village will please the families residing in the place as food is always a part of every household’s celebration.

Globe Telecom “transforms” cell sites into palm trees

Photo shows actual deployment of aesthetic tree solution in Urdaneta Village in Makati City

Globe Telecom has introduced the use of cell sites disguised as palm trees to address aesthetic concerns over the use of towering cell sites, which are necessary in effecting seamless connectivity in exclusive villages.

The offer to build palm-like cellphone towers follows the introduction of the outdoor distributed antenna system (ODAS), a state of the art technology that makes use of specialized lamp posts built with radio signal transmission capability.

“The use of tree-shaped cellphone towers is part of Globe Telecom’s efforts to improve wireless signal in exclusive villages in line with our network transformation initiative,” said Emmanuel Estrada, Globe Head of Network Technologies Strategy, referring to the company’s $790 million network and IT modernization program which will be completed within the year.

So far, Globe Telecom has utilized aesthetic tree solution in enhancing connectivity in Urdaneta Village in Makati City, Estrada said.

According to Estrada, the use of palm-tree cellphone towers is most effective in camouflaging gigantic cell sites that are sometimes considered as eye sores by some residents in exclusive villages. “The disguised cell phone towers will be difficult to identify as such and they even work to beautify the area where these infrastructures are installed,” Estrada said.

Certain residents in exclusive villages have been opposing the installation of cell sites in their respective areas, citing aesthetic concerns over such infrastructures. Still, cell sites are critical in providing seamless connectivity.

The ODAS solution, on the other hand, uses fiber-optic cables to distribute a base station’s signals to multiple low power active antenna systems installed in nominal locations inside residential subdivisions. It also supports all frequency bands used by wireless carriers, including the cutting edge long-term evolution (LTE) technology, providing stronger support for mobile data services.

The ODAS solution has been effectively deployed in Dasmarinas Village.
