Go on vacation, enroll in a tutorial class, learn new skills, apply for a job - these are just some of the many ways where students can spend their summer.But for some high school techies they grab this rare opportunity to build their future through Globe Telecom’s Junior Mobile Wizard program. It is a six-week summer program offered to Globe employees' high school children. It gives the teens a chance to learn outside a campus setting and become a part of a real company setting as they interact with customers.

They are tasked to demonstrate and discuss the latest gadgets and mobile data services, as well as other Globe offers and services, providing them the opportunity to assist customers who may wish to apply for the latest postpaid and broadband plans or avail of other Globe promos.

This year, a total of 32 qualified for the program, with 25 coming from Metro Manila, 5 from Cebu and 2 from Davao. The students, aged 15 to 17, are in second to fourth year high school level.

It began with a 2-day training at the telecommunication’s headquarters in Bonifacio Global City. The students were then assigned in 7 Globe stores located in several areas in the Philippines.

“The use of tree-shaped cellphone towers is part of Globe Telecom’s efforts to improve wireless signal in exclusive villages in line with our network transformation initiative,” said Emmanuel Estrada, Globe Head of Network Technologies Strategy, referring to the company’s $790 million network and IT modernization program which will be completed within the year.

So far, Globe Telecom has utilized aesthetic tree solution in enhancing connectivity in Urdaneta Village in Makati City, Estrada said.

According to Estrada, the use of palm-tree cellphone towers is most effective in camouflaging gigantic cell sites that are sometimes considered as eye sores by some residents in exclusive villages. “The disguised cell phone towers will be difficult to identify as such and they even work to beautify the area where these infrastructures are installed,” Estrada said.

Certain residents in exclusive villages have been opposing the installation of cell sites in their respective areas, citing aesthetic concerns over such infrastructures. Still, cell sites are critical in providing seamless connectivity.

The ODAS solution, on the other hand, uses fiber-optic cables to distribute a base station’s signals to multiple low power active antenna systems installed in nominal locations inside residential subdivisions. It also supports all frequency bands used by wireless carriers, including the cutting edge long-term evolution (LTE) technology, providing stronger support for mobile data services.

Everytime I set-up an Adhoc Network using my connection from Globe Tattoo superstick or use Intel's Wifi Technology, I always see this Tattoo Wifi network.

I didn't care much about it since I already have my own internet connection. I thought it was just the WAN that we Globe Tattoo Superstick subscribers get signal or the signal the towers give here in Deca Homes. But when my friend James asked me a favor yesterday about connecting to this wifi network I was so schocked upon learning that Deca Homes Resort and Residences is actually a wifi hotspot and you can connect to that network.

It gives me more relief knowing that I have this back-up connection everytime I reached 800mb limit in my Globe Tattoo prepaid superstick connection. (updated: I am now a Globe Postpaid user) I am already a happy subscriber because the speed that I get is unbelievably fast compared to the previous ISP I have tried before but this one is another reason to be happy. It seems like my appeal for good ISP has been answered. :)
