by , in
1. Hollywood Boulevard

When you’re up in the Hollywood Hills admiring the famous Hollywood sign, why not venture onto Hollywood Boulevard where you can admire the famous handprints and marvel at the fame of those who made them. If you’re a boxing fanatic see if you can fit your hands into the handprints of giants like Mohammed Ali or Joe DiMaggio. No visit to Hollywood Boulevard Walk Of Fame would be complete for a sports fanatic without seeking out the ultimate sports star’s handprints.

2. Madame Tussauds Hollywood

Just a stone’s throw away, what better way to bring those handprints to life than to take a trip to Madame Tussauds for the ultimate photo opportunity with the stars? Your Facebook friends will thank you for the memories of having your own private selfie taken with famous boxers like Joe Demaggio you too could be in the company of your most famous sporting heroes and rub shoulders with silent but charismatic heroes of yesteryear like Mohammed Ali, or better still why not measure yourself against Michael Johnston famous basketball player and see if you can match the arm’s length of even more famous basketball players and American Footballers.

Wackiest Awards Ever Received

by , in
Moonman

While an award is typically a good thing, and a sign of a job well done, occasionally crystal plaques and awards are used to poke fun at something or celebrate the craziness of life. Most people enjoy being awarded something, even if it’s just for something funny or crazy they did.

In the awards world, statues and awards often symbolize something to do with the organization giving the award. While some are classy and sophisticated, others are downright crazy and different, but perhaps that makes them even more noticeable.

Worst Picture

The Golden Raspberry Awards are given every year in an effort to lighten the atmosphere and poke fun at those in the entertainment industry. Each year, an award for Worst Picture is given. It’s tough to find a filmmaker, director or actor that actually wants to win this award, although it does showcase the ability of the individual to relax and laugh at the work they’ve done that hasn’t been so great

Surfboards for All

Whether you like surfing or live in Alaska, winning a Teen Choice Award means that you are given a life-size surfboard for your efforts. Many awards are easy to store and display, but this particular award may cause many to scratch their heads and wonder how in the world they will even get it home. Despite the strangeness of the award itself, the Teen Choice Awards are a constant hit for young adults and teenagers to enjoy the work of their favorites in the entertainment industry.

Moonman

Winning a VMA is a big step on the road to stardom in the music industry, but the award itself may confuse many. Referred to as the “Moon Man” the award is a statue in the shape of a man placing the MTV flag on the moon. This is a picture MTV often uses on advertisements and during shows on the network, and there are few who would turn away from winning this coveted award. The awards show typically involves some type of scandal or argument that sets the press on fire for several months until it’s time to start thinking of next year’s show.

Kids’ Choice Award

If you’re chosen by the kids of America and Nickelodeon to win a Kids’ Choice Award, you’ll get an orange blimp with Nickelodeon written across the side. Wacky though it may be it also signifies a serious popularity with an age demographic that can make or break a career. Stars like Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and the boys of One Direction are regular winners at this awards show.

Belt Buckles

Country Music Television plays right into the stereotype of country music by handing out statues in the shape of belt buckles to winners. Entertainers have a chance to embrace their inner redneck during the awards show with live performances by the biggest acts in the country. While it may seem crazy, an award from CMT is a big step on the road to success for many struggling country artists.

A Symbol of Success

Regardless of the shape the award comes in, the recipient is given a tangible symbol of success that can’t be shown through a paycheck or album sales. An awards show with awards from FineAwards.com is the perfect way to celebrate the hard work of all those that are involved in any organization.

Bruno Mars Super Bowl Halftime Show

by , in
Bruno Mars, Bruno Mars Super Bowl Halftime Show

It has become tradition and a huge honor for a performer to be selected for the Super Bowl Halftime Show. This year, singer – songwriter Bruno Mars took the gargantuan task and promised to “give it all he’s got.” And boy, did he give a lot.

First, it was a quiet start with a children’s choir singing a few lines from ‘Billionaire’, ending with the words, …’the world better prepare’. The spotlight then shifted to none other than Bruno Mars himself, performing an adrenalin pumping drum solo. He soon joined the stage, singing with a brass show band, dancing and grooving to ‘Locked Out of Heaven’. The stage was bathed in yellow gold light as Mars, his band and his back-up singers were dressed to the nines in glittering golden jackets.

He continued to thrill with cool dance moves that mirrored groups from the 60s as he sang his hit song, ‘Treasure’. This he segued with a line from James Brown, “I don’t want to hurt you baby, I just want to work you baby.”, revealing another amped up performance from Red Hot Chili Peppers. True to form, the RHCP crew were shirtless which gave a stark contrast to Mars and his group who wore suits. It worked however, and soon both even the audience was on their feet, filling the stands, moving to the music.

As the period was nearing the end, Bruno turned sentimental, giving way to a video of US soldiers who were from their family. He capped his electrifying performance with a slow and maudlin song, ‘Just the Way You Are.’

Lest we forget to mention, the lights and fireworks committee gave a spectacular arrangement too. The kaleidoscope of colors was fantastic and the fireworks were so well timed. Great job, NFL and Bruno!

Wally Bayola's Back?

by , in
Wally Bayola

It’s been months since we’ve seen of Wally Bayola. He has chosen to keep mum and bear his ‘humiliation’ in silence. Since his scandal was publicized, he has dropped out of the famed noon-time show, ‘Eat Bulaga’ (temporarily, they say) and has stepped out of the public limelight. There has been silence from both the comedian and the show’s representatives except for the initial expression of support for the latter.

Now, reports are in that he is making a ‘soft’ comeback. Wally is slowly re-entering the entertainment biz, stage wise. Stalwart supporters of the shamed comedian will be disappointed however, because he has yet to return to his segment with Jose and Paolo on TV. He is back as a stand-up comedian at Zirkoh in Quezon City.

Filipinos truly have the shortest memories and the biggest of hearts. This early, a lot of people are clamoring for him to come back and reclaim his rightful place in the industry. So many seem to have forgotten, how a few months ago, his very public scandal with EB babes Yosh came out. Now, forgetful of the indiscretion, people are asking for his comeback to showbiz.

Will he though? That remains to be seen. Some skeptics are doubtful on how effective he remains and understandably so. Eat Bulaga is a wholesome noontime show, one which no clandestine performer should be a part of.

Am I being too tough? Do you think he should go back? Let’s just wait and see what happens in the next few months.

Deniece Cornejo Meme

by , in
Vhong Navarro’s recent misfortune has been trending as of late. Along with this, formerly under the radar model, Deniece Milinette Cornejo has also gained notoriety. It’s nasty business, with either side telling a different story. On one end, we hear of the girl inviting the boy over to her place at 11pm. On another, we hear of how the girl was s**ually assaulted prompting her guy friends to pounce and defend her supposedly purloined dignity.

Since this news has erupted, people have voiced out different opinions, majority of which tend to lean on Navarro’s side. What is most amusing however is how netizens have chosen to react. Apart from choice words, several memes have popped out online, ranging from laugh out loud funny to roll all over the floor hilarious.

First off, there is a photo of Deniece before and after getting obvious facial ‘improvements’. The humor doesn’t stop from there however, as soon, another meme featuring Liam Neeson’s now iconic call from the hit movie ‘Taken’ – ‘I will find you and I will kill you’ hits online. Then there’s another with Angel Locsin and Maja Salvador who appear to be incensed at Cornejo. But what seems to really top it all are three more memes - one with Pacquiao, another with a WWE wrestler (sorry wrestling fans for not knowing his name) and still another with the drunk guy from the news who orders bulalo from a bakery.

The law system being what it is, this legal hullaballoo of he said, she said will last for months so why not get a few laughs out of the whole thing? It’s genius, I say! If you can’t insult someone enough – make a meme and laugh. Ha.

Critics Choice Awards 2014

by , in
Chiwetel Ejiofor, 12 Years of Slave Movie
Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon Northup / Platt in 12 Years of Slave Movie

The recently concluded Critic’s Choice Awards hugely follows, for the most part, the list of winners from the Golden Globes. Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto still bagged the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor (Drama) respectively. Frozen is still Best Animated Feature Film both Amy Adams and Leonardo di Caprio are still Best Actor and Actress for the Comedy or Musical category.

There are actually a slew of similarities between the two awards night but the most significant win for the season was for ’12 Years a Slave’. The movie garnered several awards including Best Picture (the most prominent for the night), Best Supporting Actress for newcomer, Lupita Nyong’o and Best Adapted Screenplay for John Ridley. Not a bad turnout considering the film had a total of breathtaking 13 nominations.

American Hustle was also a huge success. With its 13 nominations as well and 4 wins, it was a phenomenal! The movie won Best Acting Ensemble, Best Makeup, Best Comedy and Best Supporting Actress. (as mentioned earlier).

The ever composed Cate Blanchett won- yet again an award and was most charming in her speech to her son. She thanked several people but turned to her son to quip and say to be thankful that ‘it is I and no Jasmine, who is your mother.’ (Jasmine is the character she plays in the film ‘Blue Jasmine’.) The reaction was hilarious.

The only let down for me, was the disposition of the host, Aisha Tyler. Perhaps it is because I am not a native English speaker, perhaps because I am not wholly familiar with the American culture, but I do think she was a sordidly boring host. She bombarded guests with tasteless jokes which nobody seemed to acknowledge. She would strike an occasional conversation with actors and actresses but never give her mic or allow other people to speak. One notable moment there was when she was with Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson – rattling off questions and never allowing Rita or Tom the benefit of answering.

But let’s not sour the event. The awards night was brilliant and the actors and actresses dashing and fabulous.See the complete list of the nominees and winners below. Now, onto the next awards – this morning, January 19, Philippine time.

Golden Globes 2014

by , in
Matthew McConaughey

Last year, I wrote about the shocking weight loss Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto had to undergo for the movie, Dallas Buyers Club. Movie fans were quick to pile one negative feedback after another, concerned about the drastic weight loss. It seems now that the award season is upon us, these two Hollywood heavyweights have the last laugh. Just a few hours ago during the Golden Globe awards, McConaughey and Leto each won Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama and Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture respectively. This spells sweet success for each actor who spent countless hours to look gaunt – just to look the part.

Other big winners that night which will certainly grab the Filipino’s attention is the Holiday-themed, animation hit, ‘Frozen’. Prior to bagging the Best Animated Feature Film, ‘Frozen’ had already captured hearts with its adorable characters, Olaf and Hans and sisters Elsa and Anna. ‘Frozen’ was also nominated for Best Original Song but lost to a movie on the late Nelson Mandela. ‘American Hustle’ is also on top of the list with Jennifer Lawrence winning Best Supporting Actress, Amy Adams as Best Actress and the movie itself as Best Picture.

Not to be outdone, ‘Breaking Bad’ took home honors as Best Television Drama with Bryan Cranston as the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series (Drama). Aaron Paul was also nominated but lost to Jon Voight, Angelina Jolie’s father, for ‘Ray Donovan’.

Justin Timberlake is Back and So Am I

by , in

I still remember when I first realized I had fallen in love with Justin Timberlake. It was about a decade ago, and I still lived in Houston, Texas. I was about 22 years old, fresh out of college. I was single and ready to mingle…and Justin Timberlake was just the music to get me moving.

There was a party in the Montrose area of Houston, which is known for its arts and culture. I remember walking up to the house, the Houston cityscape towering in the background. Music bumped from the inside, a keg pumping out Shiner Bock on the front lawn. This was the time when all the hip kids were drinking that Sparks stuff, but I never liked it. Me, I brought my own bottle of vodka and just needed to find something decent to mix it with.

Justin Timberlake

I remember walking in the front door with a few friends, realizing that I barely knew anyone at the party. But good God, there sure were a lot of indie-looking kids shoved in that little old house with their red lipstick and black rimmed glasses. I remember thinking that I wasn’t sure if I was cool enough to be there, but I shook that thought off and found some Sprite to mix with.

Before I knew it, I was mingling and chatting it up. Flirting—you know. What young twenty-somethings do. I remember looking out in the living room where the dance floor was and only seeing a few kids dancing.

But as the night rolled on and drinks flowed freely, everyone loosened up. And then it happened. “Rock Your Body” by Justin Timberlake came on the stereo and the place erupted. Suddenly drinks were raised in the air and every single person in the house was dancing their asses off.

I remember looking around and feeling the music. I remember thinking, “God, this is the best night ever.”

And it was right then that it happened. I fell in love with Justin Timberlake.

JT and Me Today

Fast forward a decade. I’m no longer a recent college grad. No longer a single twenty something. No, I’m 32 years old with a 4 year old and a husband. Life is very different. It took some unexpected turns, but I have no complaints.

But the days of house parties and staying out all night dancing and drinking are long past, replaced by wine with dinner and early to bed nights. After all, who has the energy to party with kids? Not this girl.

However, recently, something has awakened inside of me. See, Justin Timberlake has returned with a new album. Like an old boyfriend, coming around and stirring up old emotions. I know I can never return to my old life, but it doesn’t mean I can’t relive some of those beautiful, exciting, old memories.

So he’s here, new music and all. And to make matters worse (better), he’s on tour. That’s right. He’s coming to see us. Dubbed the 20/20 Experience World Tour, Timberlake is heading out on a world tour that’s going to “Rock Your Body.” And mine too.

I’ve already cleared this with my husband. For one night in 2014, I’m going to relive my twenties. I’m going to see JT live. I’m going to drink. I’m going to dance. I’m going to swoon like I’m 22 again (But I won’t flirt like I’m 22 again. I love my husband!)

What Can We Expect From the Tour?

It’s already underway, and not to spoil the surprise or anything, I’ve been reading up on it. And I have to say, it sounds fabulous.  See, Timberlake has an added advantage over many other musicians. Not only does he have an amazing voice, but he can dance better than pretty much anyone. On top of that, he’s a great actor (as we have learned over the last few years). All of this means two things:
  • He has the skills to throw together the best entertainment experience you can ever imagine
  • He’s so big that no one is going to tell him what to do—he will put on the show he wants to put on
And it sounds like the result is simply amazing. Other highlights include:
  • The Tennessee Kids—the band he has put together for the performance sounds amazing
  • They have embellished old songs to make them larger than life
  • His crowd interaction—he’s not one of these guys who is too big to talk to the fans
Where Can You Buy Tickets?

Haven’t got tickets yet? You can buy Justin Timberlake tickets here.

Jennifer Wilson used to work in an ad agency in Houston, Texas. However, she has since started her own business as a freelance writer. And in case you didn’t figure it out, she’s also a diehard JT fan who is really really REALLY excited about his comeback.

Rest in Peace, Paul Walker

by , in
Paul Walker

The world recently mourns the untimely demise of Hollywood actor Paul Walker, who became a household name through his role as Brian O'Conner in the film franchise, Fast And The Furious. Slated to reprise his role for the 7th film installment, the charismatic actor figured in a car crash with one of his friends aboard a Porsche Carrera GT. They were reported to have just left a charity event for Walker's Reach Out Worldwide foundation for the benefit of the survivors of Super Typhoon Haiyan. Authorities agreed that speed might have played a vital role in the fate of the Walker and his friend who were found dead on the spot in the total-wrecked sports car. Bob Marley: The Death of A Legend

by , in
how did bob marley die, Bob Marley

When Bob Marley died in 1981 at the age of 36, the music industry lost a legendary performer, but the human race lost much, much more. Bob Marley was a powerful voice for freedom, human rights, racial equality and spirituality.

Officially, Marley died from malignant melanoma, an extremely dangerous form of cancer that began on his toe and eventually spread throughout his body. The cancer was discovered after Bob injured his foot playing soccer in 1977 and his doctor strongly recommended amputation.

The simple truth is that Bob Marley was a deeply religious man who strictly adhered to the teachings of his Rastafarian faith. He believed the words of Leviticus 21:5 - "They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in the flesh." This passage explains both the commandment to wear dreadlocks and the ban on amputation, instructions that Marley faithfully obeyed.

By 1980, Marley's cancer had metastasized and his health began to rapidly decline. He collapsed while jogging in New York City the day after a concert and he gave his final live performance in September of 1980 in Pittsburgh. A recording of that amazing show was released in February of 2011 as Bob Marley and the Wailers Live Forever.

During the few months he had left to him, Bob Marley sought treatment from several specialists. On his way home to Jamaica from Germany in 1981, he became so seriously ill that his flight was diverted to Miami. There he was admitted Cedars Medical Center for emergency care.

While Bob Marley was in Ceders Medical, a dietitian named Rona Steinberg was sent in to find out what he might be able to eat. She was so impressed with their brief encounter that she recalls it clearly to this day.

In her own words, she describes meeting the legendary musician:

"There was a buzz about Bob Marley being in the hospital and they wanted someone to go in to find out what he can possibly eat... He was lying in bed and he was surrounded by all his bodyguards and some relatives. I basically really spoke to them and of course looked over at him and he looked at me. You know I think he was just very, very weak and glanced at me. Maybe tried to give me a little expression, smile, whatever. And we came down to what he could really tolerate, just you know something soft. What did he like. They told me anything chocolate. I said ëHow about some chocolate pudding?' "

Rona Steinberg remembers the gentle man who gave the world all he had to give:

"He was a nice man. I felt like a gentle energy from him. Even though of course he was sick and weak. But thatís the only way I can really express it. I do remember the image of him lying in his bed. He had gotten very, very thin. But he had all this hair. These Rastafarian long locks. And it was a little bit sad, because he had so much energy and he was so cool and being up on stage and dancing around. You know and then here he was. He died very young. But I guess he did a lot in his short life. He really made quite an impression. I guess God allowed him to do that in his short life, and I guess it was time for him to move on."

Rastaman Bob Marley died on May 11, 1981 after telling his son Ziggy, "Money can't buy life." In the span of his three and one half decades, he touched millions of souls with his music and his spirit. He may be gone from our sight, but he will live forever through his incredible talent and his loving heart.

Redemption Song

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our mind.
Wo! Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fullfil the book.
Won't you have to sing
This songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever had:
Redemption songs -
All I ever had:
Redemption songs:
These songs of freedom,
Songs of freedom.

Britain's Best Female Comedians

by , in
The world of stand-up comedy is tough, with difficult audiences that can be hard to please. But for a woman, it is nigh on impossible and it takes a special breed to succeed. One woman who has what it takes is Jo Brand and since her first gig as a part time act in 1986 she has become one of Britain’s most successful and best-loved female comedians.

Growing up in sleepy Kent, Jo had a happy childhood until she went away at the age of 16 to a sixth form college in Hastings, which she hated. To punish her parents, she took up with the wrong crowd and began a relationship with a heroin addict four years her senior that got her kicked out of the family home. She eventually earned a social science degree and qualified as a Registered Mental Nurse, and went on to work as a psychiatric nurse for 10 years.

Jo’s first gig stressed her out so much that she drank seven pints of lager before taking to the stage, only to be heckled and abused by at least one male member of the audience for the whole of her act. Despite the fact that she received no applause when she finished, Jo persevered. “The Sea Monster”, as she became known, became popular and eventually broke into television. Her distinctive bored, monotone delivery drawing from the media and pop culture proved a favourite and she is now a regular on television and has had several series of her own.

Jo Brand

But Jo still has concerns for the struggles faced by female comedians. Some men in the entertainment industry, she says, try to exploit young women while male audiences see them as “fair game” and behave inappropriately. She believes her background in psychiatric nursing has helped her through some of her own difficult experiences.

Jo is also a successful author, a supporter of the Labour Party and is passionate about raising awareness of mental health issues.

Jo, however, does not stand alone in the ranks of British female comedians. Others are also climbing the ladder of success, despite the challenges. Oxford-educated Josie Long has also made a name for herself in the tough world of stand-up comedy. She has been performing since the age of 14 and has toured Britain a number of times. She has also appeared at several comedy festivals around the world including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and festivals in Adelaide, Melbourne Montreal and Auckland. Like Jo, she struggled early on in her career because she is a woman but now she is a highly sought-after comic whose themes are usually about self-improvement and politics.

Another of Britain’s best female stand-up comedians is Lucy Porter. She has been entertaining sell-out audiences around the world since 2001 with her casual chatty style that addresses adult themes from a woman’s perspective. She says that she did her first stand-up gig as far away from home as she could just in case it went horribly wrong. It was, of course, a pre-cursor to a successful career as Lucy is now a regular at comedy festivals across the globe and is highly sought-after as a comedy writer. She also frequently appears on radio and television in panel shows and sitcoms.

Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards: Engaged

by , in

Zayn Malik, Perrie Edwards

Looks like the One Direction hotties will be one member less available.

Zayn Malik and girlfriend of two years Perrie Edwards are engaged! The two lovebirds were seen together on August 20 in London Leicester Square for the One Direction: This Is Us movie premiere. Tongues were soon wagging when the fabulous couple arrived because apart from Edwards’ elegant coif and flowing black gown, a stunningly huge diamond ring was noticeable on her finger.

Perrie Edwards’ mom confirms, “It’s official. I’m over the moon. They really are in love. “she continues, ”It’s wonderful because Zayn is absolutely gorgeous. It’s true they got engaged on Sunday, and it’s absolutely lovely. Perrie loves him to pieces and its perfect. They get on so well together and understand each other. It’s just fabulous.”

Edwards mom further explains that although the young couple got engaged last Sunday, Perrie chose not to reveal it until the premiere of the movie so as to not get the attention on herself or divert the limelight from the film.

Zayn fans in the meantime are not so happy in receiving the news. A few have taken to Twitter, posting rants that range from heartbreak and disappointment to blatant disbelief. One fan had this to say: “zayn just friend-zoned the pure sh@# out of the whole fandom.” Another fan even took poetic license and dedicated a poem to her favorite singer. One of the lines went: “He doesn’t know / How the girl behind the screen / Loves him with all her heart.”

Well, tough luck ladies. It was bound to happen, anyway. Let’s just wish him happiness and a lifetime’s worth of love.

‘Slave to the Rhythym’, a Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber collaboration?

by , in

Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson

It’s a bizarre collaboration, however which way you look at it. Only last Friday, August 16, a Michael Jackson track sung by Justin Bieber surfaced over the net. There is no official word from JB regarding the song’s origins, but he tweets mysteriously: “Excited for what is to come. MJ set the bar. Not only for music but for being an entertainer and how u treat the fans. Wish he was here….”

The word is that this is a single that Michael Jalcson recorded but never finished back in 2009. It’s titled, ‘Slave to the Rhythm’, a fast paced song that speaks of a mysterious, unnamed girl and her dangerous obsession. The song has now been updated to feature the vocals of Justin Bieber.

Skeptics and anti-Beliebers who hear the track might actually be in for a surprise; the song is unbelievably good. The beat is addictive, the verses flow perfectly and the chorus is engaging. Beiber, a self-confessed fan of the late King of Pop has been said to offer this track as a tribute of sorts and Michael Jackson fans just might agree: as you listen to the music, it will be hard to figure whose vocals belong to whom. One thing is certain however, nobody can pull off the high-pitched signature ‘hee-hee’ like the one and only Michael Jackson can.

One Direction, 'Our Moment'

by , in
One Direction

Apart from conquering the airwaves, One Direction seems all set to try a new direction by launching a new fragrance line. Over the course of two months, various commercials, press releases and even YouTube videos have gone viral, to promote their perfume which is aptly named ‘Our Moment'.

Fans from all over have fawned over and gushed on the singing sensations’ teasers on YouTube. And teasers they surely are, with only a few seconds worth of exposure that is set to kindle any One Directioner on fire. So far, we’ve only seen Niall, Zayn, Louis and Harry in individual, 4 second teasers. Perhaps Liam will complete this awesome quintuplet ad before the formal unveiling of the fragrance on August 25?

Since their exposure to the public limelight two years ago, the boys of One Direction have proven themselves to be unstoppable. Numerous record deals, Chart topper singles, concerts, guest ins and public appearances keep these phenomenal group busy but grounded. Time and again, they have endeared themselves to fans with their humility and dedication to the craft.

Now, as they try their hand into a different ‘pie’ so to speak, One Direction is calling out to fans once more for support. “Our Moment” seems to be labeled fittingly so that each fan can try the scent and have their own cozy little moment with their idolized group.

“Our Moment” is packaged in pink a pink box and bottle with a silver crown. The scent has been said to contain notes of grapefruits, wild berries, jasmine petals, sheer wood and creamy musk. It will be first made available in London on August 25 and will then reach worldwide shore on September 9. Prices will range from Php 1,400 to Php 2,000.

Lea Michele’s Touching Dedication To Cory

by , in
Lea Michele, Glee

With soulful eyes and a wistful smile, Lea Michele walked up to the stage to accept her 2013 Teen Choice award for Choice TV Actress in a comedy. The Glee star was radiant in a two toned pink ensemble, her first public appearance since the tragedic death of co-star and fiancé Cory Monteith.

“Thank you guys. Thank you. “ she gushes emotionally,”I just wanted to be here today to personally thank all of you and tell everyone out there how much all of your love and support has meant to me over these past few difficult weeks. Thank you.”

Casually touching her ‘Cory’ nameplate necklace, Lea continued,”Not that I had doubts before, but you guys are certainly the greatest fans in the world, and I want to dedicate this award to Cory. For all of you who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love, we are going to get through this together.”

Michele was a picture of elegance as she continued with her speech despite the barrage of tears. She maintained her composure and simply ended with, "He was very special to me and also to the world and we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile, and his beautiful, beautiful heart. So whether you knew him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and became a part of all of our hearts and that's where he'll stay forever. So thank you guys so much. Thank you."

With her onstage were Glee stars Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz and Amber Riley. Award presenter Lily Collins also enveloped Michele in a warm, reassuring hug.

With this news, let me just address a short missive to Lea: our hearts are still with you as you go through this difficult time. Be assured that Cory will not be forgotten and that he will forever remain a star, shining brightly in the firmament of the lives of those he touched.

Stallone Tweets: Willis Out, Ford In!

by , in
Sylvester Stallone

Even though negotiations are still underway for the third installment of The Expendables, it seems that casting has come to a bit of a temporary snag. It has been reported that Bruce Willis has refused to sign up over a $3 million contract for 4 days’ work in Bulgaria. The veteran action star is said to be asking for a million a day to which Stallone, and several others, have said no.

As a result, Stallone has reached out to Harrison Ford who was quick to say yes in joining the Expendables franchise. Stallone later tweeted: “WILLIS OUT. . . HARRISON FORD IN! ! ! ! GREAT NEWS! ! ! ! ! Been waiting years for this! ! ! !” This was later followed by a second tweet which seemed aimed at Willis, “GREEDY AND LAZY…A SURE FORMULA FOR CAREER FAILURE.” Willis has yet to reply or comment on the issue.

Whatever his reasons may be, Willis’ fans will surely be disappointed to hear of the change. The Expendables is an ultimate action fan’s dream come true simply by seeing all the hardcore actions stars side by side in one great movie. People have even gone so far as to speculate that Harrison Ford may be a better fit than Bruce Willis who, according to an insider, “is a better actor and a much nicer person.”

What do you think? Is Ford better than Willis?

Paolo Ballesteros, The Chameleon

by , in

Comedians have employed various antics to make the masses laugh. Some specialize in slapstick comedy where a certain degree of physical agility has to be met. Running, falling and tripping – the Stooges would be best icons for this.

But when it comes to parodies, Paolo Ballesteros seems to put everyone else to shame. His hilarious portrayals of well known and loved Hollywood artists have gained attention among Philippine audiences. His witty take on Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Audrey Hepburn and his latest and most popular one so far, Marilyn Monroe have made him a trending topic not only on gossip TVs but in social media as well.

He is not the first comic to be successful in this craft though. Well known comedians such as Jon Santos and Willie Nepomuceno have had relative success in TV and theatre. What sets him truly apart is his ability to transform into the softer, opposite gender without appearing like a transvestite. While Jon Santos’ impersonations are effective, his masculinity is still apparent; whereas, Willie Nep has only stuck out on purely male parodies. Another amazing quality Paolo possesses is his dexterity with make-up. Using YouTube as his only reference, he is remarkable with his concealer and blushes that it almost seems like magic.

Of course, his rising fame goes hand in hand with controversy. But one would find it hard not to admire the silent nobility upon which he handles this. He simply does not care. Think what you will, Paolo is gay or Paolo is straight. Either way, he is unarguably one of the ‘yummy’ celebrities we have today.

Art Imitates Life: Maja and Kim and Gerald in Between

by , in
Maja Salvador, Kim Chiu

It doesn’t make sense – two beautiful and talented women, fighting over a man. This is a storyline favorite among soap opera writers, it seems. It’s been written about over and over - and over again that it almost it feels like and sounds like a cliché. It’s a plot that demeans women and reduces them to mindless zombies that live in search of an able bodied man. (well – even if the man isn’t able bodied, women apparently still fight over him.)

Art truly imitates life and true to form, we now have two attractive women who are fighting over a man. The tabloids are now full of news that Kim Chiu and Maja Salvador are apparently not in good terms. Maja is in a relationship with Gerald who is Kim’s ex. Ugh. Kim is allegedly sore that Maja went into a relationship with him, even if they already parted ways and have stayed that way for over three years. It’s just in bad taste to talk, write or even think about. Kim is attractive – and can have any man she wants. Maja is the same, why fight over Gerald? Why destroy a friendship over one man when you can have so many others?

But I guess, I am providing a bad example here of two women fighting over a man. After all, Kim is the only one who feels cheated over a relationship that has long been over. Maja is not at fault, even if you say it is palabra de honor (word of honor) between two friends. I mean, should a man be out of bounds merely because he is a friend’s ex? I think yes, IF he cheated but if the relationship died a natural death, they should both be able to date whoever they want, including an ex’s friends.
