Jim Carrey slammed by Co-Actors in Kick Ass 2

Kick Ass Movie

Jim Carrey has taken in a lot of fire lately for his personal decision not to promote his newest movie, Kick Ass 2. Carrey stars as born again vigilante, Colonel Stars and Stripes. Kick Ass 2 is a British American Superhero Action / Comedy that is set to hit the Philippines on August 14.

Carrey, an active and outspoken advocate on gun control tweeted last June; “I did ‘Kick Ass’ a month before Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience, I cannot support that level of violence.” (The Sandy Hook tragedy occurred on December 2012 where a psychotic break of one man led to the ruthless shooting of 6 adults and 20 children.) Since that statement, Carrey has declined to promote, much less participate in any publicity stint for the film.

This decision has confused co-stars John Leguizamo and Chloe Moretz. Leguizamo has stated in an interview, “I just don’t understand. When did you realize the movie was violent? I mean, didn’t you see the first one? Didn’t you read the script?” Moretz, on the other hand, says, “If you are easily swayed, you might see “The Silence of the Lambs’ and think you are a serial killer. It’s a movie and its fake.”

Kick Ass writer Mark Miller has an interesting take on Jim Carey’s view. “People keep saying to me, ‘Are you pissed off at Jim Carrey? ‘No, I’m delighted with Jim Carrey, this is amazing.” There is truth to his words as it is a tried and tested recipe for people to flock or view something they have been told not to. By publicly declining to promote the movie, Jim has inadvertently helped it gain momentum in box office records than suppress its palpable notoriety.
