10 Cities with the Most Traffic

If you think your morning commute is bad then the data below might make you feel a whole lot better. Carbuyertom.com has put together some stats about the 10 most congested cities in the world. Although the UK’s major city roads suffer some high levels of congestion there are other cities in other parts of the world that have it a lot worse.

The Navigation and GPS Company TomTom  gathered a large amount of data from its users worldwide to put together a traffic index that shows the level of congestion in cities and other urban areas. The index measures the time it takes to travel throughout the day, the time it takes to travel throughout peak periods and compares this data with the time it takes to travel during non-congested periods. The difference is shown as a “total average percentage increase in the travel time”. As an example, commuters in Warsaw will spend approximately 39% more time travelling during congested periods. The data is based upon real GPS measurements and takes into account things like local roads and highways. See below for the top 10 most congested cities in the world.

It’s probably worth mentioning that there are a number of different traffic congestion level results online from different companies that use different methodologies and datasets thus conclude with different cities in their top 10. However we chose to discuss the TomTom research in this article as it was done recently, uses a sound method and is from a trusted and well known company.
