Gloomy Day for Glee: Cory Monteith Found Dead

When is death considered a welcome release? When is it considered a tragedy? When the deceased is old and fragile, does death become bliss? When the departed is still at the peak of youth, is it called an untimely loss?

Cory Monteith, known to so many Glee fans as Finn Hudson, was found dead on Saturday, July 13 at a hotel in Vancouver. He was 31, an age of so many possibilities, so many chances and so many choices. He was yet to arrive at the peak of his life.

The actor who rose to fame for his smooth voice and adorably awkward dance moves has had a history of substance abuse and addiction. Police responding to the scene have found no evidence of foul play as records reveal that he returned to his room alone. No confirmation has been given regarding speculations on drug overdose.

As a child, Monteith showed exceptional academic capabilities. At the age of seven, his parents parted ways. This caused a severe change in him, causing his grades to plummet and his attitude to change. By the time he became a teenager, Monteith displayed all the signs of a trouble youth –drug use and peddling as well as stealing from family and friends to finance his ‘lifestyle’. When he was 19, his Mother, together with his friends set up and intervention upon which he voluntarily signed up for rehab. He has continuously been in and out of rehab for over a decade.

Cory Monteith has been a loving son, a loyal friend and a humble star. Family and friends will attest to that. On his passing, Hollywood lost a great talent and the TV world has lost a memorable icon. On his death, the entire world has lost a little piece of heavenly music.

Cory Monteith, you will be remembered. Rest in peace. :(
