There is a huge amount of choice when it comes to buying cars these days, and with a car to suit everyone’s requirements and budgets, you would be hard pressed to not find what you are looking for!
One popular type of car is the small city car. Examples of such cars include the Fiat 500, Mini, Hyundai i10 (as pictured in the photograph above), Toyota Aygo, Volkswagen Up! and the Vauxhall Adam. The thing about cars is that the bigger they are, the more expensive they are to buy. This is because of the extra amount of parts and labour needed to build bigger cars, and the extra cost involved with fitting bigger components to them.
City cars are cheap to buy because they are cheap to make - but don’t let this fact discourage you from buying one, because they will still have as good a build quality as their bigger brothers and sisters!
2. They are cheap to insure
Take the Volkswagen Up! for example. The insurance groups for these cars are generally between group 1 and group 4. In the UK, cars are classed under insurance groups according to many factors such as the cost to repair or replace in the event of a claim. Groups start from 1 (cheapest) to 50 (dearest).
This makes city cars great for people that have just passed their driving tests, for example, as we all know car insurance for young and inexperienced drivers can often cost a fortune normally!
If you live in a densely-populated area such as central London, you will know that parking can be a nightmare a lot of the time. And if you roll around in a large estate or 4x4 vehicle, you have halved your chances of being able to squeeze into a small parking space somewhere!
4. They are easy to sell
When selling your car frequently asked questions by many motorists will often include things like “can I sell this car quickly” or “is this the sort of car people will want to buy”. The good news is, you will easily be able to sell a city car because they are so popular!
5. They are cheap to maintain
Generally, city cars are extremely cheap to maintain and because stringent emission standards are forcing car manufacturers to develop engines with little to no CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions, you probably won’t even have to pay any vehicle excise duty either.
6. They are bigger than the small cars of the past
If you are worried about driving around in a small narrow box on wheels, then you needn’t be because city cars are actually quite spacious in the cabin and can comfortably seat four people inside for long periods of time.
7. They look pretty cool
Another great thing about city cars is that they generally look pretty cool! Just because a car is small doesn’t mean it has to look ugly, and this is something cars like the Mini and the Fiat 500 have proven!
